Band practice

News – Saturday 8th September

Band members went up to the Braemar Highland Gathering for the first time, not to play but to observe the Gathering and have a good look at the Massed Bands. We were not disappointed the whole day was fantastic and we would certainly recommend that you should visit it if you have the chance in the future.

News – Tuesday 27th August

The band was asked if a few of us could play on BBC Radio Sheffield, the Toby Foster show. In addition could we let Toby try a kilt on as he is thinking of buying one. We also explained how long the band has been formed, the story behind the tartan for our kilts and that we were recruiting new pipers and drummers. The session was a great laugh and a pleasure to meet Toby and his team, hopefully he can make one of our practices to have a go on the drums.

News – Wednesday 21st August 2019

A few of the band members re-visited the Staff of Life Pub to thank them for the hospitality shown to the band whilst we performed at their charity walk. Ian and Robbie presented them with a band shield, a letter of appreciation and a cheque to contribute towards the amount they are raising. They are doing a fantastic job and have raised a lot of money for a very worthy charity, the Firefly Charity.

A mini band was sent to take part in the Newton Carnival, Derbyshire. Although the march for the parade is ‘up hill and down dale’ it was a very enjoyable day, well done to the organisers for all their hard work and effort in organising the carnival. Take a look at the video below, it shows the parade and the arena performance.

Ulley Country Park Arts Festival and Mo’s birthday celebration. A mini band performed at the Arts Festival in Ulley Country Park to a very appreciative audience. It was a successful event and the weather was unbelievable! Then it was off to Mo’s, one of our pipers, to celebrate his birthday with a bit of piping and a meal of ‘haggis, tatties and neeps’….in June with the sun shining for a beer and a BBQ as well!! Well done to our Chairman, Brian for addressing the haggis, a great performance.

Saturday 22nd June 2019

During June one of our pipers, Jim Oakes has spent the month in Edinburgh. Whilst there he attended the practice sessions for Dunfermline Pipe Band and received a very friendly and warm welcome. Through discussions it was clear that they are very similar to the City of Sheffield Pipe Band, taking the playing of pipes and drums very seriously but also having fun and enjoying the band atmosphere and camaraderie. Jim took part in the Dunfermline Children’s Gala with the pipe band which was attended by hundreds of children and their families.

Take a look at their website for further band information.
