A Week of Burns Night Suppers

Beginning with Sure & Steadfast 9130 Lodge’s annual Burns Night (24th Jan), the band also played at the Cutlers’ Hall for the current Master Cutler, (actually on Burns Night 25th Jan) and finally at Wortley Hall (28th Jan) for a sold out evening!

Sure & Steadfast 9130 Lodge made a generous donation to the band to go towards our planned tour to Nijmegen in July 2023. This will greatly assist members of the band, and we express our personal thanks to the lodge for their generosity.

In between this, our pipers performed at private events around Sheffield and South Yorkshire from golf clubs to private parties.

Here are a few photos!

Edlington / Retiring Drum Major

On the 13th November, Remembrance Sunday, the band lead Edlington Town’s parade from the Hilltop Centre to the Cenotaph. Many families joined us on the March and we also played a few laments during the wreath laying service at the cenotaph.

Afterwards, we retired to the Edlington RBL. We would like to thank the Mayor and her council for looking after us so well for the whole morning and we look forward to returning in 2023.

This event was a particularly poignant occasion for us, as our Drum Major – Dave White would retire at the end of the parade. He has served the band for many years and always attracts photos and selfies with members of the public, wherever we are performing. At the RBL, the Deputy Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Adrian Hunt, gave a small presentation to our retiring Drum Major.

Thank you for all that you did for the pipe band, Dave – you will be missed!

Autumn Workshop 2022

Autumn Workshop – October 2022

After a well-earned summer break, the band has started an intense period of training and development and in October, this included a band workshop with Neil Clark and Stewart Gardiner – both of whom are wonderful teachers and great exponents of their instruments. A few of the pipers also played in a masterclass, held on the Friday night with Neil Clark, in Sheffield’s Victoria Hall.

We were also truly honoured to receive a special High Sheriff’s Award, which was accepted by our current Drum Major, Dave White and President, Pearl McNulty, at the Autumn workshop.

Finally, at the end of the October, a few members of the band travelled to Dunfermline to have a rehearsal with the Dunfermline Pipe Band, as we will travel to Nijmegen with this band in 2023. A wonderful evening and we look forward to getting together with the band again, soon.

Spring Workshop – 2022

May 21 – Spring Workshrop

On Saturday the 21st May we held a band workshop at the Fire Service Training Centre,  something we have wanted to do for quite a while.

It was really well attended by band members and in addition we invited the Fire Service Cadets to come along and spend some time with us. They were a credit to their Instructors and SYF&R, they thoroughly enjoyed being taught to march by Martyn Oakes and then marching along with the band.

Thank you to the High Sherriff who came along to give the event his support, the cadets really appreciated it. Who knows, we may even have a potential piper or drummer wanting to join us, it was a great day, well done to everyone involved with it.

Yorkshire Armouries

May 4th – ASDIC Conference, Yorkshire Armouries Museum, Leeds

We were invited to play for the ASDIC Conference at the Yorkshire Armouries Museum in Leeds. ASDIC is a charity that supports Military Veterans through Drop in Centres across the UK. The veterans attend, enjoy camaraderie, have a meal with their colleagues and provide additional support if needed. A wonderful charity. Whilst there we played in the Oriental Hall of the Museum, a great experience for us. Thank you to the organisers for their kind hospitality.

HMS Sheffield 40th Anniversary

May 1st – Falklands and HMS Sheffield Remembrance Parade and Ceremony, Sheffield City Centre

The band had the privilege to lead the parade to the Cathedral for a service to remember the Falkland’s War and HMS Sheffield. We then played at the Cutlers Hall for those attending the event meal. Well done to everyone that arranged the event, you deserve a pat on the back.
